Aitos
is at the foot of the Aitos Mountains, forming part of the Eastern Stara Planina Mountains. To the east are the Three Brothers, a strange yet wonderful rocky outcrop, which was a fortress in the Middle Ages. It was called Aetos, meaning “Eagle” in Greek.

In the gorge of the Aitos River is a large park with a Zoo, and a National Revival Period Complex showing traditional Bulgarian crafts. The Saint Dimitar Church is known for its original wall paintings.
