Shabla - the easternmost settlement in Bulgaria is situated in the Dobrudja Plain only 5 km away from the cape of the same name.
Once it was a Roman fortress Karia, a town that served as an important stop over on the road from Kavarna to Mangalia (ancient Kalatia)- another centre of the vast Roman empire in the northern part of the region.

The major factors for the development of Shabla are the fertile land, the important transport location and the Lake of Shabla, located 2 km north east of the town. Today Shabla is an industrial and agricultural centre growing some of the vastest vine and flax plantations in Bulgaria.
